Introducing the Santoña, Brittany Ferries' latest cruise-ferry inspired by the beautiful town in Spain of the same name. The Santoña, like its sister ships, boasts a unique Spanish-inspired art collection that reflects the ship's namesake and Spanish culture in general. The art collection is curated by Kimberly Poppe of KP Studio, an American-born artist and designer based in Amsterdam.
For the Santoña's art collection, Poppe commissioned Rubén Sánchez, a Spanish artist from Madrid, to create bold street art murals that reflect the town's lively and vibrant atmosphere. Sánchez's work is also featured in the Taberna de Tapas, an authentic Spanish restaurant onboard.
Interpreting the town's fishing and anchoas culture through a stylistic lens, the Restaurante Azul aboard the Santoña features elegant photographic portraits created by the artistic duo KlunderBie. These portraits pay tribute to the local culture and heritage of Santoña in a modern way.
Santoña's C-Club, the premium lounge onboard, showcases stunning art pieces that pay homage to Spanish culture. The lounge features modern Meninas sculptures by Spanish pop artist Felipao, as well as artistic interpretations of the iconic theme in Spanish art, Las Meninas, also created by KlunderBie.
In addition to the C-Club, the ship also houses a separate virtual interactive exhibition called the House of Las Meninas. The exhibition showcases modern interpretations of paintings, statues, and photography inspired by Diego Velasquez's masterpiece "Las Meninas," which is one of the most analyzed works in western art history.
The collection is further rounded out by playful paintings from Spanish artist Javier Ortas. Additionally, the art collection includes stunning aerial photographs of the marshes in Santona by Juan Carlos Muñoz, a nature photographer and conservationist. Munoz's photographs capture the beauty of Santoña's natural surroundings from a unique perspective, highlighting the importance of preserving these delicate ecosystems.
